For uptiding you can generally get away with using lighter gear than you would user for standard boat fishing. Some people even use beach multiplers or small fixed spool reels, but not recommended if you are uptiding for Tope!I used to use a Shimano Speedmaster TSM 2 CFS (I think they stopped making this reel now) or a Daiwa SL20SH for uptiding. If you are fishing for Tope you might want to step up to a Daiwa SL30 sized reel or TSM IV to give you a bit more grunt. You can get the new Daiwa Saltist Daiwa Saltist STT20H (shown right) for around £135 and they are great value for money, have been around for years and are tried and tested. Don't be fooled into thinking you need to spend many hundreds of pounds on your uptide reel. |
